The Canisius College softball team clinched first place in the MAAC with a doubleheader sweep at Siena Saturday afternoon, blanking the Saints 8-0 in the first game and 5-0 in the nightcap.
At Siena, the Griffins held the Saints scoreless in the first game,
8-0. Canisius scored an early run in the first inning on an RBI single
by Sue Raiport, another run in the second inning on a Lynn Stoczynski home
run, and one more run in the fourth inning off a Joy
In the sixth inning Canisius added two more runs to go up, 5-0. Stoczynski grounded out to shortstop scoring Amy Brelinsky, and Jackie Fusco scored off a wild pitch.
In the final inning Canisius belted out three hits, two of them being home runs. Jesse Rosenhahn homered to lead off the inning. Fusco hit a single, and then freshman Janice Hoeltke belted her first career homer.
In the second game, the Griffs continued to have the hot bat and scored one run in the first inning, four in the fourth, and held the Saints scoreless a second time, 5-0.
Judski led off the game with a homer in the first inning to give the
Griffs a 1-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Raiport doubled, and Tracy Horvath
followed with an RBI double. Hoeltke hit an RBI single that scored Horvath,
and Stoczynski hit her second "big fly" of the day
